Seeking the Lowest Carbon Option for your project?
EPDs will soon become a mandatory requirement in the procurement process. Our Tradstocks EPDs will help architects, landscape architects, specifiers, and contractors make informed decisions by understanding the environmental footprints of our products compared to others.
This aids in selecting materials that align with you and your client’s sustainability goals and building standards like LEED and BREEAM, and also with members of the public who have an interest in how their money gets spent on Public Realm projects.
What is the most Important Environmental Metric in EPDs?
One crucial metric is the Global Warming Potential (GWP), which measures the product’s contribution to climate change in CO2 equivalents, providing a clear indication of the product’s environmental impact.
The GWP of Tradstocks Scottish Whinstone is 26x lower compared to Chinese Granite.

Why EPDs are relevant for the Natural Stone Industry?
We all need to reduce our carbon footprint and be transparent about the materials we use. The Natural ?Stone Industry is no different. In fact, we should be leading the way. The construction industry, which we are part of, according to the United Nations Environmental Programme is one of the largest emitters of greenhouse gases, and if we can use building and landscaping materials with a lower carbon footprint, we should.
Promoting Transparency and Trust within our Industry
An EPD transparently reports objective, comparable and third party verified data about products and their environmental performance from a lifestyle perspective. Where the EPD is the final report, the foundation of any EPD is a life cycle assessment (LCA), which examines the environmental impact of a product from raw material extraction, manufacturing, and transportation, to usage and end-of-life disposal or recycling.
Third Party Verification ensures objectivity and impartiality in the verification process.
EPDs follow international standards such as ISO 14025, ISO 21930, and EN 15804, which ensures the data is transparent, reliable and comparable. Tradstocks EPDs now incorporated in the International EPD system.
